Here I find myself looking over my shoulder to see if someone is fast-tracking or an electric cart is close, voices overhead speaking fast and loud.

You guessed it, I am in the airport walking to my next gate. So early, like usual, walking fast, like normal, and paying attention to the activity around me.

Yesterday, I was on the “walk” to the gate and saw a shoe-shining guy cleaning the dust off a man’s boots. My first thought is, how come shoe shiners are always primarily guys? Does this job require background checks, training, vehicle, phone, insurance, certification, or sales tax?

The guy looked happy enough doing what he does. And from my observation, it looked like he had no care in the world.

Might that be the truth?

I decided. The next time I am in the airport and see a shoeshine guy, I stop to ask these questions. Stay tuned.

I just might make a job change!
