My daily life was busy, busy, busy until one day I literally skidded to a stop and asked this ingenious question;
How Do I Find The Quiet?
Every night I lay in bed with my mind buzzing with news, jobs, stuff I forgot to do, round and round until I finally fell asleep, Waking up wasn’t much better, does everyone wake up with more stuff to think about? That was me. My bold decision was that I was completely done with this round and round thinking because honestly, I knew there was more, and somehow I knew the more involved getting close and personal with the Quiet.
But first things first and my first was to fight to the death this one BIG complicated belief, which was that I, as a business owner and not just any ole business owner, but a WOMEN-OWNED business owner, (believe me that comes with a load of expectations) has to produce over-the-top outstanding results to be considered among my peers successful.
A small sample of The CliffNotes on Women-Owned, Better Business Owners
We must look good all the time. We must stand tall with our hands on our hips for photos. We must wear black girl suits with white shirts for all presentations, cuz golly we have to be taken seriously. We must not show weakness ever! And I mean ever because weakness translates to dumb, not serious, and cannot make a decision.
I was introduced to the world of small business where these CliffNotes were firmly embedded, Business 101 Class. These rules made Quiet for me difficult because there were SO many “have to” “must-dos” “show ups” to keep track of. One beautiful sunny Tampa day I stood in my office and thought about our customers, the building, the vans, employees, and myself and consciously decided to throw out the CliffNotes, I then proceeded to do a happy dance!
Today I am curious as to why it took me so long to stand in front of that small office mirror and smile at myself? No worries though, because once I garbaged The CliffNotes and began to live in the Quiet, which was simply giving myself permission to relax and dream and imagine
and accept and wear blue jeans, my business flourished and I slept soundly at night.
The Quiet gives and gives, it is like a hand reaching out to touch and invite and encourage.
